E-Vehicle Charge Points – 3 Legal Changes
New mandatory charge point legislation afoot.
New laws to supercharge the electric vehicle revolution mean hundreds of thousands of extra charge points are in the pipeline. UK government recently announced that up to 145,000 extra charge points are to be installed each year in the run up to 2030 when the sale of new petrol and diesel cars is set to end.
With the majority of car charging happening at home, this will mean people will soon buy new properties with charge points and that they will also be readily available at new shops and workplaces across the UK. The new laws are set to make it as easy as refueling a petrol or diesel car today. The government boldly announced;
‘Hundreds of thousands of extra charge points are in the pipeline with new laws to supercharge the electric vehicle revolution.’
What are the rule changes ahead?
(further information will follow):
- New homes, supermarkets, workplaces, places of major renovation will be required by law to install electric vehicle charge points from next year, under the legislation announced today.
- New places or largescale renovations with 10+ parking will have to install electric vehicle charge points.
- The government will introduce new ways to pay contactless, at all new rapid charge points.
